The Horse Blanket Drive returns
Our annual charity drive to help keep needy horses warm
Here at APNM, we’ve been out measuring the coats on caterpillars and have determined this winter may be a cold one in New Mexico. Already, we’re getting requests for our annual tradition, the Equine Protection Fund’s Winter Horse Blanket Drive.
Now in its third year, the Horse Blanket Drive--a partnership with Barn Dogs Equine Supply of Eldorado--has distributed donated blankets to over a dozen horses in the past two winters. Blanketing needy horses, donkeys, and mules can help to reduce calories expended in cold weather, maximizing feed supplies, and give the animals security and comfort during inclement conditions.
This year, we’re expanding the Horse Blanket Drive, better serving southern New Mexico with collection centers for the blankets in Las Cruces. We’ll send an update as soon as the partnerships are finalized and, if you would like more information, please contact us.
If you have an extra blanket in your barn to donate (any size in good condition and freshly laundered), please contact APNM’s Equine Campaign Manager or call (505) 466-1059.
(Please note that a horse blanket is a specific product with special features to help it stay on the horse’s torso. A regular blanket will not be applicable for this collection drive, but, if you have extra blankets, many animal shelters will accept them.)
