2011 Milagro Awards Ceremony
Called "Inspiring," "Moving"

Animal Protection of New Mexico's (APNM) Milagro Awards only happen once every four years now, but their impact makes up for their frequency of occurrence! On Saturday, October 1st APNM recognized 16 outstanding New Mexicans for their collaborative contributions to the wellbeing of animals in the state. The gala event, unprecedented in its attendance of almost 300 people, was an evening to cherish and remember for the award winners, their friends, family and supporters who came just to cheer them on!

Awards were given in 13 categories, and each winner’s phenomenal accomplishments were richly articulated in a three-minute film highlighting how they’ve made a truly remarkable difference for animals in New Mexico.  If you attended the event, thank you for your support of this mission-critical program.

And if you missed this wonderful ceremony, don’t despair! We’ve compiled an extensive photo gallery that will make you feel like you were there.

In addition, each award winner’s film is available on APNM’s website at this 2011 Milagro films link. Sit back with a big bowl of popcorn, your favorite beverage and be inspired at the talents and capabilities among us!

The Milagro Awards are a key component of APNM’s programs designed to inspire the greater community to create a more humane world. APNM believes that requires building and maintaining a “humane movement” in New Mexico. Fundamental change in the way animals are treated and regarded can happen when forces for change are applied throughout the community, including among the media, law enforcement, policymakers, advocates, funders, educators, compassionate citizens, etc.

One of APNM’s guiding principles is that it is paramount to substantially recognize and reward those who model humane values and actions. The Milagro Awards is APNM’s way of highlighting the extraordinary contributions and selfless efforts of change-makers in our midst.

Read these comments from attendees:

"The event was so well done! It was an incredible experience and will long stand out in my mind as a very special memory. It was so inspiring to be with all those amazing animal lovers and hear their stories. I felt like Cinderella at the ball. Thank you again, for all the work you all do for the animals. And thank you for recognizing our little Bindy."

“I just wanted to tell you we loved the Milagro Awards! It was so well done and I thought it was incredibly inspiring and moving. The food was also fabulous and I'm in the process of going vegan as I can no longer be a part of the suffering of our beautiful creatures. I've also decided to try to do a fundraiser for the chimps with a few friends of mine, we were so distraught by their plight!”

The next Milagro Awards celebration will be held in 2015, and if you’d like to help us make that event as spectacular as this year’s, please contact us and let us know how you’d like to get involved. Thank you!
