Animal Protection New Mexico Gelding Agreement

  • Date Format: MM slash DD slash YYYY
  • This communication is to confirm in writing our agreement regarding the gelding requirement for colts and stallions as a condition to receive emergency feed assistance from Animal Protection New Mexico’s (APNM) Equine Protection Fund program service.

APNM is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advocate the rights of animals by effecting systemic change, resulting in the humane treatment of all animals. In keeping with that mission, the APNM Equine Protection Fund emergency feed assistance is restricted to residents of New Mexico who: own colts and stallions that have been gelded; are not breeders and/or do not engage in horse racing; consent to possible site visits from animal control or law enforcement; and have verifiable income loss within six (6) months of applying for assistance.

APNM requires that colts and horses be gelded unless there is a medical or other acceptable exception. APNM’s terms and conditions for gelding are as follows:

    • The operation must be scheduled and performed within 90 days of approval of emergency feed assistance.
    • The operation must be performed by a licensed veterinarian. If the applicant does not have a veterinarian, APNM will provide a referral. APNM also has a financial assistance program for gelding for those in need.
    • Applicant agrees to abstain from any breeding with other stallions or mares subsequent to receiving assistance.

Failure to comply with these terms and conditions may result in APNM’s rejection of Applicant’s request for emergency feed assistance and/or denial of future requests for emergency feed assistance.
