Teaching Compassion for Animals

Animal Protection New Mexico is engaging New Mexico communities to strengthen the human-animal bond and promote safety and compassion for animals. Lasting systemic change requires rethinking how we care for and protect the animals we share our world with. The link between animal abuse and interpersonal violence is a key element of APNM’s approach to community outreach and education, but this link works both ways. There is a link between kindness to animals and creating a nurturing relationship with others.

APNM offers a unique, inspirational, and practical humane education curriculum for educators in New Mexico. Our online curriculum introduces students to humane education principles through video lessons and activities on animal welfare that build student empathy and concern for peers, families, and the environment.

What is The Animal Connection?

The Animal Connection seeks to foster empathy, responsibility, and compassionate action through nurturing kindness towards animals and nature. Students develop empathy for their peers and others while raising awareness about animal welfare in their community. We help teachers create the next generation of animal advocates who are compassionate action-makers. The Animal Connection believes in:

  • Empathy
  • Responsibility
  • Compassionate Action

Dissection Choice

It’s the 21st Century and students should no longer have to make a choice between dissecting animal specimens or their academic careers.
