Equine Protection Fund: Equine Care Support for Shelters and Government Agencies

Currently available to equine rescues licensed and inspected in New Mexico, and to government and law enforcement agencies, including tribal governments, in New Mexico. This financial assistance is to help support necessary emergency veterinary care and/or treatment of equines who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or surrendered, with the goal of preventing further suffering from cruelty and/or unrelieved pain without treatment. Other types of community-level assistance for equines to government agencies may be available depending on funding.

All applications will be reviewed and considered; however, this equine care assistance is not intended to cover routine veterinary care, core vaccinations or typical hoof care. Due to budget constraints, we are currently not able to cover gelding and humane euthanasia expenses for equine shelters. For financial assistance with these procedures, we recommend applying through Horse Plus Humane Society: https://horseshelternetwork.org/resources/ We are still considering applications for other necessary emergency veterinary care for equine shelters.
